UGANDA POLICE: WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN MUZURI HOTEL TORORO WAS STRANGLED; OFFENDER ARRESTED IN KAMPALA CITY SELLING 11 TELEVISION SETS STOLEN

Late Irene Kamahinyo came from Ibanda district in Western Uganda to look for a job in Tororo district located in Eastern Uganda only to meet her death.

Police said the woman found dead in Muzuri Hotel was strangled and that evidence at the scene led them to suspect David Tuhairwe who was arrested in Kampala City with robbed property.

In their routine patrols, Police found David Twahirwe and Emus Mulisa at Kafumbe-Mukasa road with seven television sets marked “Muzuri Hotel Tororo”. Police at Old Kampala arrested the two suspects and started questioning them.

Our police officers at Old Kampala Police Division followed up on the case and inquired from their counterparts in Tororo District whether they received any criminal incident at the said hotel said Asp Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

The Tororo District Police Command confirmed that the manager of the same hotel was murdered the night of Monday and televisions sets taken. The murder case was registered at Tororo Police.

Kampala Metropolitan Police and Tororo District Police Command are working hand in hand in the investigations to establish the persons behind the murder and have them Prosecuted.

“We thank our officers at Old Kampala Police Division who went an extra mile to establish the origin of the stolen property and that has helped us get crucial evidence in a murder case”,Owoyesigyire said.

Police further arrested Ollo Ronald and Oyok Patrick all residents of Tororo district to help with more information. The four suspects are now facing murder and robbery charges.

Eye witnesses from Tororo said the owner of Muzuri Hotel Tororo has sent away all workers since the lockdown was imposed by the government of Uganda because of coronavirus pandemic.

Irene Kamahinyo , the Manager of the hotel was left to look after the property pending lifting the lockdown.

Superintendent Of Police Chebene, Tororo District Police Commander said they found the body of a woman at the hotel tied with ropes on both legs and arms. Evidence shows she was strangled to death.

Police boss added that they were later informed that the murder plot was planned by one David Tuhairwe the former worker at the hotel.

“David Tuhairwe who was the former worker at the hotel came and found the Manager and Oyok Patrick the former cleaner at the hotel, consequently he called the him for the for a drink at a certain point in Tororo,” says the DPC.

He added that while they were still drinking, David left Oyok and went and teamed up with other three people, stormed the hotel, tired the manager both legs and arms and strangled her to death. “After killing her, they stole 11 television sets and other unidentified money,” revealed the DPC.

He further said police teamed up with other security agencies to hunt for the killers.

“The suspects were detained on charges of murder and possession of stolen items. They will be transported back to Tororo for prosecution,” says Luke.
